When we start a radio show, we have developed a format for the show, but I never know what’s actually going to come out of my mouth. And frankly, this morning, I was a bit surprised by how candid I was about my personal past financial difficulties. And I wondered why…
At the core is my belief that this show is about real life. And to be anything less than open and honest and candid with you would mean I was being less than I know I am. You’ve heard me say before that our lives are shaped by the stories we tell, about ourselves and about others. It is my hope that in hearing the unvarnished truth in the stories that I tell about myself and my life, you find yourself more comfortable in creating stories of your own capabilities. Our connection, our community has to be based on what is real and what is genuine, and not about the fictions we create so that other people like or respect us.
The other factor in this morning’s revelations was my guest, Glenn Rust. I know him to be someone who genuinely cares about his community and about his customers. And when you find yourself in the company of those who really do care, you find that it becomes much easier to share some of those “can I really say this?” thoughts. Which brings me to a final question… In matters financial and not, do you choose to surround yourself with people who support you and honestly and lovingly reflect what they see.
