“Meditation allows us to stop looking for happiness in all the wrong places. Real, abiding happiness, we discover, isn’t the result of getting our needs met temporarily. That often leads to an endless cycle of disappointment and escalating desire. The things we pin our hopes on don’t prove to be enough. The bar is continually being raised, and then we’re on the lookout for something more.”

One of America’s leading spiritual teachers and authors, Sharon Salzberg is the co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Massachusetts. She has played a crucial role in bringing Asian meditation practices to the West. The ancient Buddhist practices of vipassana (mindfulness) and metta (lovingkindness) are the foundations of her work.

Sharon is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post, and was a contributing editor of Oprah’s O Magazine for several years. She has appeared in numerous magazines including Time Magazine, Yoga Journal, msnbc.com, Self, Tricycle, Real Simple, Good Housekeeping, Body & Soul, Mirabella, Buddhadharma, More and Shambhala Sun, as well as on a variety of radio programs. Sharon has also served beside the Dalai Lama on panel discussions.

Good morning Sharon. Would you lead us in a breath practice this morning?

Call in Saturdays 8:00am – 9:00am in Charlottesville on WINA 1070 AM 434-977-1070 or Listen Live!
